BMWMCON - Chatin'

Larry Marcum Work Day - Saturday, Nov 5 and maybe ...
Douglas Pittman

Larry Marcum is a friend and devoted BMW Motorcycle Club of Nashville member. He volunteered much of his time, money and equipment to help the Club at all its events, and had served on the Club's Board of Directors. After his unexpected death on June 3, 2022 and following the services a number of his friends and acquaintances offered to help with any work around Larry's 80+ acre property. The date has been set.

We have talked with Larry's family and there will be a work day on Saturday, November 5, 2022. The next day, Sunday, will be an overflow day if we don't complete everything on Saturday.

Larry's son-in-law, Dusty, will help direct all of us. He also has a farm and will bring a skid steer and trailer to help put everything in a burn pile. We will be working on clearing the 1/2 mile long gravel driveway of overgrowth, pruning shrubs around several buildings and removing general debris from the driveway, around the house and other buildings. Pat, Larry's wife, will provide us with lunch and drinks while we are working. It is estimated that a crew of 10 people can knock it out in 1 day.

Tools you might bring if you have them: saws (chain and/or manual), pole trimmers, axes, rakes, a little rope if you have some, and a good sense of humor. Bring a friend if you want. I think this can be a fun time and a wonderful way to both honor and remember Larry.

Larry's home is in the Bethesda area southeast of Franklin and I will send work times, his address and detailed directions later.

For questions or to volunteer please email me at WDPittman@gmail.com or call/text me at 615.351.8177 (cell).

Wanted to give everyone an update on the Larry Marcum work day at his house in Bethesda. The response has been great (as expected) and we have 14 volunteers to date. Weather permitting, all the work should be done in one day. Below is a photo of 1 section of the 1/2 mile driveway from several years ago. We will be doing both sides of the driveway and landscaping/shrubs at the house. Larry and Pat's address is 6636 Cross Keys Rd., College Grove, TN 37046, So far those who can come are:

Chris Aycock, Douglas Pittman, Ed Zarb, Jim Allen, John Fromhold, Lee Waggoner, Michael Umphres, Phil Stoner, Ray Moss, Rod McDonald, Ron Brant, Skip Neuhoff, Stanley Bryan, Steve Robbins.

Dusty, Larry's son-in-law, will be letting us know what tools would be helpful and I will get this information out in advance.

Thanks to all who can come and food will be provided. As for now, we will work rain or shine unless it is just raining too hard.

I am pretty good at and enjoy pruning so I would like to volunteer to lead and or take part in that aspect of the cleanup around the house.  I also have the tools which I plan to bring.

I’ll be bringing loppers, a telescopic pool with branch saw on it, and a Stihl gas powered hedge trimmer.

Are we expecting to take down trees?

Thanks

It’s great that you guys are pitching in on this project and I wish that I could be there to take part.  Unfortunately, on Nov the first, I will be having hand surgery to repair an arthritic thumb joint, a common problem for those in my age group, so I would be more than my usual useless on the 5th.  We all know that if the situation were reversed, Larry would be the first guy to sign up.  Again, I commend those of you that are taking part in this event and I hope that you will have a great day.
