You are correct Mark...
On your main profile page, at the very bottom you can click on Forum General Preferences.
At the bottom of that page, you can upload a small photo to be used as your "avatar".
To get it to show up on all your forum entries you simply check the box: "Check this box to apply these identification options to all my forums" before saving.
