Eldridge Toy Run 2019 - December Ride
Douglas Pittman
Time for the annual Eldridge Toy Run.

This is a charity ride always held the first Saturday in December -- Rain or Shine.  As usual we leave on Friday morning (December 6 this year) and return home Saturday afternoon before dark.

Last year 12 club members made the trip and we hope for a couple more in 2019. A few new roads are in the works along with some old favorites.  More notices about details on signing up, where to meet, hotels and routes will be sent in coming weeks.

Eldridge, Alabama is a small town with one blinking amber light, a 4-way stop, a service station and a children's home. It is about 20 miles west of Jasper, Alabama and about 40 miles northwest of Birmingham, Alabama.

Email me if you have any questions. Hope you can make it.  Hold the dates so you can join us.

17th Annual Ride to Eldridge Alabama Children’s Home in support of the home,

While the ride is named Eldridge Toy Run, due to the Christmas season, this is a benefit for the home to help sustain the home during the entire year.  Rest assured each child will received their own wish list of “toys” and gifts…. We make sure of that due to age, size and needs and their wish list.

So your donations help during the slow less giving months and we will generate donations to meet budget needs, add to the scholarship fund and general overhead of the home which will provided on average a home to about 30 children year round.   Since 1948, the home has helped over 1000 children without state or federal money and with donations only from supporters, civic groups, churches and our annual benefit.

The main event and escorted ride in occur about noon on Saturday, the First Saturday in December, this year that will be Dec. 7, 2019.   However on Friday Dec. 6, 2017 we have a special gathering of long distance riders, staff, the children and sponsors.   The Friday night meal is furnished with the Prime Rib and other meats plus a full buffet of foods and desserts galore.

Rooms for Firday night.   Hampton Inn of Winfield Alabama offers the Friends and Family rate of 89$ plus tax… call DIRECT 205 487 1270  ask for the Eldridge Children’s Home Rate or Don G Norwood Block.

Super 8 in Jasper Alabama offers rate of $53.99 plus tax…. One King or Two Queens size , you must call direct 205 221 3050.  Ask for the Don G Norwood block or Eldridge Children’s Home event.

We will furnish Friday night transportation to and from each motel so you will not have to gear back up to ride or if bad weather night.

ON Saturday you will ride in at your leisure, you can catch an escorted ride or you can plan to arrive about 10:30 AM, we start serving the noon meal about 11 AM.

The program is over about 1:30PM or so and you can plan to stay over or head home…. WE have places to watch Football on Saturday night as well.

Links to paypal and other information can be found at www.eldridgetoyrun.com

Please make payment or checks to Eldridge Children Home.

We don’t suggest gift cards due to verification issues and dates of the cards.

We have a Fish tank bowl for cash donatioins as well.

The meals are furnished by many local groups and sponsors both on Friday night and Saturday noon.

The event takes place regardless of the weather….. ok to come in your car or truck.

We have a car show and many shirts and other items to purchased with 100% of money going to the Benefit…. All Benefit team members are volunteers and you see many others working as volunteers that day.

Visit the campus and you see where and how you donation is used…. We guarantee you leave with full stomach and warm heart.

Post your questions and I do my best to response in timely fashion.

Don, I have been coming for several years.  This is a great cause and a very enjoyable time.  I plan to be there. Larry M

ELDRIDGE RIDE UPDATES:

The Eldridge Toy Run is 18 days away with us leaving on Friday morning, December 6 and returning Saturday afternoon.   Updates are:

1.  We will meet at Marcy Jo's Meal House at 4209 US-431, Columbia, TN at 8:00 am for breakfast and kickstands up at 9:00 am.   Here is link to Marcy Jo's .

2.  I am staying at the Super 8 in Jasper (about $54) for nostalgic reasons but you have a choice of either the Super 8 or the Hampton Inn.  Contact information and cost are in this posts below.  Also, here is a link to the Super 8, Jasper, Al.  Call the direct 205 number and tell them you are part of the "Eldridge Toy Run."

3.  Will share the planned route with those going by the end of next week.

4.  The Club has put this on our calendar and if you go to the Eldridge Toy Run - 12/6/2019 and click on the Eldridge Toy Ride.it will let you register for the ride through the club.  Even if you have told me you are coming it would be great for us to keep track of who is joining us using the Club's site and you can see the list of others attending.  Last unofficial count was 11 riders.

Looking forward to seeing you.  Let me know of any questions.

Thanks
