Hi all BMWMCON members and especially Polly (we have not forgotten you or any of our friends in Nashville)!!!
Was hoping to have some good, if not great news. Shirley’s surgery on her spine was a success. The day after the surgery I could see an improvement in her extremities function. But I thought I may just want to see something. However, her physician
saw the same improvement as I did and was very pleased in what he saw. After a few days Shirley was transferred to Baptist Rehabilitation Hospital in Germantown. The therapists where amazed about the different they saw in her. Previously it was assumed
that her problem was because of her diabetes and did not see much of an improvement. But new, when an excitement in what the therapist’s saw. Every day she did better and better. Even so the surgeon stated that the full benefit would not be realized for
up to nine month. The hospital was so excited about the progress that the convinced Medicare to buy her an motorized wheelchair. The chair is to be delivered this coming Monday (04-25-2022). Shirley was home now and looking forward to the delivery. We
where looking forward to getting a van with access for a wheelchair and to make the club meetings once again.
All is going very well….. But why am I writing this from her hospital room. Wednesday, 04-20-2022, Shirley became unresponsive to any question and touch. I called 911 and Bartlett ambulance transported her to Baptist Hospital here in Memphis. If was
discovered that she had a UTI and kidney infection with blood poisoning. All is treated now with heavy doses of antibiotics. Our doctors told us if had not gotten her to the hospital at that time…. you can guess the end of that statement. Now we are hoping
that she is going to be released (if improvement warrant it) on Monday.
To all of you, ride safe!!!
Shirley and Bert….
