Good choice.  For a dedicated bike trailer, those are wonderful trailers with their low overall height, low floor height, great drag coefficient and clamshell design.  I checked them out a few years ago at their display during Barbers Vintage Days.  The rep told me that one should be very careful about loaning it out.   When I asked why, his reply was that the most common damage to a trailer was fender damage due to cutting a turn too close near gas pumps and that the Ironhorse trailer’s fenders were part of the body rather than being a simple bolt-on part.  You might want to think twice before loaning that beautiful trailer out.

Appreciate all the feedback.  I ended up getting the Ironhorse trailer.  Once I realized the factory is close (McMinnville) I took a ride over there to see them in person.  Great people, great product, and built by (and for) riders.  Just a great experience overall and cannot recommend enough.  Easily fits in a standard sized garage and goes like a dream.

I might add that the low profile trailers made by Wells Cargo and Hallmark (same owners) have a floor that drops down lower in the rear so that a tall windshield does not hit the door header when loading.   I’ve have unsuccessfully tried to haul two faired bikes in a 6 foot wide enclosed trailer but found that a width of 7 feet was about the narrowest that could haul two faired airheads without fear off damage.  Using the trick of removing side cases and turning one bike facing rearward in a 6’ wide trailer might work, but would be impractical for one person to load.  Two late model RTs might be too wide for a 7’ wide trailer but one late model RT and an unfaired bike fits.

You might want to look at the 7X12 Wells Cargo Badlander trailer.  It will haul two Airhead RTs side by side without a problem.   The trailer is low profile for reduced air drag and at 6’,11” tall can go through a 7” door.   If one inch clearance doesn’t work because the entrance into the garage and garage floor isn’t perfectly level or the hitch arrangement doesn’t allow for the trailer to be perfectly parallel to the ground, tires can be partly deflated temporarily to allow for the necessary clearance.   The Wells Cargo bike trailers are high quality with torsion tandem axles and a drop down ramp door.   Other than offering a smoother ride and greater load capacity, tandem axle trailers offer the advantage of being able to drive to a safe place in the event of a flat and also make it much easier to perform a roadside wheel swap.   The downside of these current production low profile models, with their flat finished ceilings, is that the interior height is 5’,6” which requires some stooping when inside the trailer.  I’ve found that when inside the trailer I’m usually bending over dealing with straps, so personally, the stooping isn’t a big deal.   I’ve enjoyed using my “bubble nose” 7X12 Wells Cargo bike trailer for many years but the current models offer increased interior storage space by enclosing the area over the tongue.   Unlike buying a used car or truck with their many complex systems, buying a used trailer in good condition can be a practical choice, and no, I’m not trying to sell my trailer.

Hi I am newbie so have only one experience. When I purchased my 2021 F850 GSA last September I used U-Haul trailer and their dimensions are Inside: 7'8" x 3'9.5" (LxW) and Ramp width: 3'9". It worked very well for me, it was easy to use and still there were plenty room on the back. And as it was my first experience I was not knowing how to tie down my bike and make a quick search in the internet and found pdf document which helped me a lot, in case that anyone needs.

I’ve been using a 5’x8’ enclosed trailer for several years now. There is plenty of room for one bike, riding gear, tools and more. My trailer has a ramp door for easy loading. The axle is a “drop” style so it easily fits into my garage (overall height) as well as reducing the ramp angle making loading even easier.

Hey all,


I'm looking to get an enclosed trailer and while a 6x10 would be ideal size they are too tall to fit in my storage shed…. 5x8 will clear fine but wondering if you have experience with loading/unloading bikes in one that size.


I mostly trailer my Airheads but would be nice to be able to haul the GSA or RT occasionally if needed. Anyone have experience or maybe OWN one that I could take a look at and perhaps try a “test fit”
